The WV Clearinghouse (WVCH) is a partnership between West Virginia State College and the West Virginia Department of Arts and Education that improves the economic viability of the State's communities. It accomplishes this by serving as a resource center for collecting, processing, and disseminating information about workforce development opportunities. This information is readily accessible worldwide to all parties interesed in business, education, and training opportunities in West Virginia. Initiated by the presidents of the University of Charleston, West Virginia State College, West Virginia University, and West Virginia University Institute of Technology, the Clearinghouse is a statewide service. The four founding institutions form a unique alliance among a private university; the state's two landgrant institutions, one of which is an 1862 research university and one of which is an 1890 historically black institution; and a regional campus specializing in engineering and technology. The work of the Clearinghouse is made possible by cooperation among state and local government; education and training providers at all levels; business, industry, and labor; and economic, school, and workforce development organizations throughout West Virginia. WVCH is a provider of information about educational and training opportunities, not a provider of such educational and training offerings. It serves to compliment the efforts of other workforce development activities underway in the state including; the WV Training Network; S.B. 547/591 Community and Technical College District consortia; the WV School-to-Work system; the WVU Extension Center for Community, Economic, and Workforce Development; public schools; private providers; and others. |
